It’s an exciting time for Branches as we enter the second phase of our long-range business plan. From our first meeting in my living room, with five other women who had been personally impacted by domestic violence, the dream of Branches Refuge was born. Now seven years later, Branches Refuge is open and providing families in our community a safe environment and the hope of new beginnings.

Starting with a building in need of TLC and a lot of generous hearts and hands, a grassroots effort quickly expanded to turn donations into dollars to support our cause. On February 1, 2010, we opened Branches Oaks Transitional Living Program and served over 300 women in crisis and their children. By February 28, 2014, we received our very first woman fleeing domestic violence at Branches Refuge. As good stewards, Branches Board of Directors has decided that it is now the ideal time to place the property on Main Street on the market for sale. Always keeping Branches Refuge and its sustainability in mind, this decision was made in an effort to ensure that citizens of Monroe County will have a shelter for many years to come.

Branches Gallery and Restore will remain open and we will continue to accept donations until we have a buyer for the building

We could never have opened the first and only domestic violence shelter in Monroe County without all the countless volunteers and continuing support of our community. We so appreciate each one of you! You may be wondering, “How can I help now?” There are many ways to contribute your time, talents and resources to Branches. One way you, your family or group of individuals can become involved would be to sponsor a family in crisis. Please visit our Volunteer page for further details and additional opportunities to support the many women and children we serve through Branches Refuge.

With my sincere thanks and gratitude,

Denise Hill, Founding Director
Branches of Monroe County, Inc.
